Teeth become discoloured for a number of reasons. Tea, coffee and wine all contain natural dyes which can darken them. Smoking tobacco can yellow them. Some medications can cause them to fade to grey. Nerve or blood vessel damage can darken them. Decay, fillings and tartar can discolour them. Even if none of the above are present, simple aging can cause them to lose their shine.
Teeth whitening is a simple process and involves minimal discomfort All of the above can be overcome with teeth whitening procedures such as using hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide that neutralise the stains on your tooth enamel.
The results vary from case to case, but the majority of teeth react excellently to whitening, producing dramatic improvements and superb results for the patient’s smile. The process is simple and involves minimal discomfort. Some patients may experience tooth sensitivity or sporadic toothache for a few days after the initial treatment, but a special gel or mousse can be provided to help alleviate this.
